Veterans Day 2026 in Colorado Springs: Events, Traditions, and What a Military Town Means for Buyers and Sellers

Veterans Day is one of the biggest weeks of the year in Colorado Springs, and it is personal here: more than 90,000 veterans call El Paso County home. Here is what to expect in the days around November 11, and what living in a military town means if you are buying or selling a home.

How Colorado Springs Honors Its Veterans in November

Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11 this year, and the celebration here stretches well beyond a single day. The centerpiece is the In Their Honor parade, which in recent years has marched south down Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs on the Saturday before Veterans Day, with the U.S. Air Force Academy Band performing along the route.

Last year the city launched Veterans Week, an 11-day observance running from November 1 through Veterans Day, built together with the Air Force Academy, the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, and the Fine Arts Center. It opened with the Air Force vs. Army football game at the Academy and closed with a formal wreath-laying ceremony at Memorial Park on Veterans Day itself. In its second year, some dates are still being finalized, so check the city and installation calendars as November 1 approaches.

Fort Carson holds its own command ceremonies at Founders Parade Field, and the Academy hosts events across the grounds. If you miss the week entirely, Wreaths Across America returns to the Academy cemetery in mid-December, a quieter way to honor the fallen as the year winds down.

What a Military Town Means for Buyers and Sellers

All of this matters to the housing market, because service members and their families move on military timelines, not market timelines. PCS orders arrive with hard deadlines, which keeps homes near Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and the Air Force Academy in steady demand year after year.

For buyers who have served, the VA loan is one of the strongest benefits in real estate: no down payment, no monthly mortgage insurance, and sellers can help with closing costs and rate buydowns. If you are a veteran or active-duty service member, work with an agent who knows the VA process cold, and get a pre-approval from a lender who handles VA loans every day before you start touring.

For sellers, military buyers often need flexible closing dates and shorter inspection windows, so the right price and a clean file matter even more. And because families tend to cycle through the Springs every few years, a steady stream of arrivals and departures keeps this market moving even in slower seasons.

Bottom line: Veterans Week is a good reminder of what makes this community special, whether you are new here or have lived in the Springs for years. If you are thinking about buying or selling, we would love to help you make a plan. There are no emergencies in real estate, and we have got you.

Event dates and details are subject to change; confirm with the City of Colorado Springs, Fort Carson, or the U.S. Air Force Academy before you go. The veteran population figure reflects published reporting on El Paso County and is not a guarantee of current numbers.
